Dallas Co. Sheriff warns residents to beware of scammers
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
Scammers are targeting people in the Dallas County area — and the sheriff’s department is trying to prevent people from being duped out of their money.
Sheriff Mike Granthum is warning residents to beware of scammers — looking to steal their money.
Granthum says scammers are calling people claiming to be from the sheriff’s department — telling them that they’ve missed a court date — and they owe money.
They’re also calling people — and telling them that they’ve won money. But they will need to send money — in order to collect the winnings.
“So I want people to be aware. Don’t send them money. And don’t give them your account information,” said Granthum.
“They’re asking for bank information, they’re asking for account information. They want you to meet them at a certain place, in a certain time. Don’t get yourself caught in that. It’s a scam and I want people in Dallas County and surrounding areas to know that that’s what’s going on.”
Granthum says if you have been scammed — or think you may be the victim of a scam — call the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office at 334-874-2530.
