AFC South considers future league change after championship
AFC South took on its first season this year. They had later start with tryouts in November, but head Manny Sanchez said the coaches told the players at tryouts that they were not making the team to compete. They were making this team to win.
They got their chance to do so in the Gulf Coast Premier League championship Saturday night. The Storm had to take on a rainstorm and come back from going down 1-0. But with over 500 fans behind them, AFC South took home the trophy. They won 2-1.
Now there is time to celebrate and also think about what’s next.
“One of the things we’re looking at is do we stay in the Gulf Coast Premier League,” Sanchez said, “or do we try to get into a higher league like the USL. Quite a few people are talking to us because we basically had a model franchise from the start and we ran the club professionally.”
Sanchez said AFC South will host celebrations soon. Those dates are to be announced.
