Catholic in search of a State Championship this Flag Football Season

After finishing runner-up just a year ago, the Catholic Knight’s Flag Football Team is in search of getting that final win at the end of the season. Head Coach Whitney Toole says her team is more motivated than ever to bring home the championship trophy at the end of the season.
“The first year was fun, last year was you know we want to compete and obviously we got that taste in our mouth from last year that we don’t want to come up short in the championship game anymore. I think they’ve worked even harder coming into this year just to be ready to go,” says Toole.
As the team has seen much success over the past two seasons, senior cornerback/ wide receiver Haylei Mason explains that there is a level of confidence now for this team as they know they have what it takes to play on the biggest stage in the state for flag football.
“I think we are going to use a lot of momentum that we gained from the entire season towards the end as well, because we knew we could get to that place. And we have a lot of new people so we are rebuilding, but it’s looking really good with the people we do have,” says Mason.
Anna Russo who is a junior and plays rusher, blocker, wide receiver, and kicker believes her team has the chance to win state this year because they now have the understanding of what it means and what it feels like to compete for a state championship.
“I think we have a better understanding of what it takes to be good at state and to compete at that higher level. I think that will help us in the long run,” explains Russo.
Senior rusher, Jamie McGuire, says that throughout the offseason she’s seen the team make improvements, but one in particular that stood out to her was how the Knights have improved technically.
“Our skills in general, we really pay more attention and just try to learn what we’re doing more. We do way more drills and pay attention to details way more,” says McGuire.
The Knights open up their season on August 22nd at Smiths Station against Valley.
