Southern Orthopaedic Surgeons announces plans for new surgery center in Montgomery

Southern Orthopaedic Surgeons has announced plans to build a new surgery center in Montgomery.

SOS wants to build the surgery center in Halcyon Summit, at a site that can be seen from Interstate 85.

SOS is applying for the required Certificate of Need from the State Health Planning Agency. A hearing will be held on Monday as the plans are presented and any opposition is heard.

If the surgery center is approved, SOS says it will take about two years for it to open.

The proposed surgery center will feature six operating rooms and two specialized procedure rooms. Among its state-of-the-art features, SOS says the center will include cutting-edge surgical robots for joint replacement procedures, enabling highly precise and minimally invasive surgeries, leading to quicker recovery times and improved outcomes for patients in an outpatient setting.

“There is more and more data that says patients need to go on the same day and get back to their homes get back to a normal lifestyle,” SOS surgeon Dr. Perry Hooper said.

“It’s quicker and allows for an expedited recovery, but also a better recovery overall. There is lower infection rates when these sort of procedures are done in an outpatient setting away from bacterial contaminants in the hospital and things that are in the hospital, so there is a multitude of reasons the bottom line is is best for our patients.”

SOS was founded in Montgomery in 1996.
