Pike Road students head back to class
Students in Pike Road headed back to class this morning.
Action 8 News stopped by Pike Road High School as students arrived for the first day.
This year is a special one for the school system as it is now a decade old.
The school system started its operation in 2015 with a K-8 grade school, then added a grade level each year. The high school held its first graduation in June 2020.
Superintendent Dr. Keith Lankford says he is excited for the future.
“We’ve come so far from the administrators and the teachers and the community that started that 10 years ago to where we are now,” said Dr. Lankford. “That is really the focus of this year and we’re going to be getting better in the 10th year and reflecting on what we’ve done and start moving towards the future.”
One of those things in the future is a new high school, which is currently being built on Wallahatchie Road. It is scheduled to open in August 2026.
