Suspect dead in officer-involved shooting in Opelika

Opelika police say one person is dead following an officer-involved shooting.

The incident took place around 3:07 a.m. Sunday at the Century Park Apartments, located in the 1800 block of Century Boulevard.

Once the officer arrived, they located a person who was armed with a firearm.

Police say an altercation occurred resulting in the officer firing their gun and hitting the person.

Medical assistance was immediately rendered, but the suspect was pronounced dead on the scene.

As with standard protocol, the State Bureau of Investigation is taking over the case.

All evidence and videos have been turned over to SBI for their investigation.

Once they have completed a full and thorough investigation, the results will be turned over to the Lee County District Attorney’s Office who will present the findings to a Lee County Grand Jury.
