Tuskegee falls to Johnson C. Smith 21-13 in Red Tails Classic
The Tuskegee Golden Tigers came up short against Johnson C. Smith, losing 21-13 in the season-opening Red Tails Classic at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery on Sunday.
After Tuskegee’s opening drive ended with a punt, Johnson C. Smith was able to get on the scoreboard first, with a 7-yard touchdown pass. The quarter ended with the Golden Tigers trailing 7-0.
In the second quarter, a blocked punt by Tuskegee at the Johnson C. Smith 9-yard line set up quarterback Raequan Beal connecting with Karon Taylor for a touchdown pass, tying the game at 7-7, where it remained at halftime.
Johnson C. Smith started the second half with a 75-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage, putting the Golden Bulls ahead 14-7. Tuskegee responded with a 1-yard touchdown run following a strong drive. But the extra point was missed, making the game 14-13.
Johnson C. Smith added another touchdown later in the quarter. The 21-13 score is where the game ended.
Tuskegee will next face Grambling State on the road at 6PM CDT Saturday, Sept. 7.
