Montgomery County’s new Flatwood Community Center building officially opens
People who live in the Flatwood Community now have a state-of-the-art Community Center where they can meet and host activities. The Flatwood Community Center’s grand re-opening showcased new modern amenities, including a computer lab, a fully equipped kitchen, and a multipurpose meeting space. The previous facility was destroyed by a tornado on Nov. 20, 2022.
The center will host a variety of community events and programs, including senior activities, a youth summer camp, health and wellness classes, and neighborhood gatherings. There are also plans in the future to update the walking trail and build a new playground.
“This is a turning of the page, this new community center. We’re moving forward and we’re going to do it in a way that really, really shows our appreciation for the taxpayers and the money that’s been invested in this property. I’m just looking forward to having the same crowd, or bigger crowds, than we had today. We want them to come out and really avail themselves, the service and so forth, that we will have here at this community center,” said Montgomery County Commissioner Isaiah Sankey.
