Lowndes County Sheriff facing charges

The Lowndes County Sheriff is facing charges following a heated exchange at a recent county commission meeting.

Hayneville Police Chief Kelvin Mitchell told Action 8 News that Sheriff Chris West turned himself in to face charges after learning that a warrant had been signed against him.

West is charged with harassment and interfering with a governmental operation.

Mitchell says West was released on $1,035 bond.

A court date was set for October 10 at Hayneville Municipal Court.
