The Chief of Staff for the City of Montgomery is stepping down.
Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed announced Friday that Chip Hill will no longer serve in that position at the end of September.
Hill worked with Mayor Reed for several years on both election campaigns and as the Chief of Staff since 2020.
Mayor Steven L. Reed has announced that his Chief of Staff Chip Hill will step down from his position at the end of September.
Hill released the following statement regarding his departure:
“It has been an honor to serve my hometown for the last 5 and a half years as Chief of Staff. I want to thank Mayor Reed for trusting me with this office. The Mayor and I have been working together since 2008 and we had no way of knowing the challenges that awaited us at the outset of his historic journey as Montgomery’s first black Mayor. I’m proud that Montgomery overcame the challenges of the pandemic by working together. Our city emerged from the pandemic in better economic shape than any major city in the state. We continued to build on that momentum and Montgomery led the state in economic development and new job creation in 2022. We have been named one of the top military communities in the nation two of the last three years. Mayor Reed’s aggressive vision led us to landing six major economic development projects that transform this entire region. Perhaps our greatest accomplishment is that we were able to invest more in the Montgomery Police Department than any administration in the history of this city. There is always a right time to pass the torch. Colonel Jerime Reid will do an amazing job as the Mayor’s new Chief of Staff. He and I work very well together, and we have a busy month of transition ahead of us. I return to run my firm – targeting a couple of key issues. There are some immediate political activities of consequence that I have been asked to participate in plan to engage in. For Montgomery to reach her potential, there is much work to be done in some key areas and I want to be a part of it.”
Chief Operating Officer Jerime Reid will take on the role of acting Chief of Staff starting October 1.
