ACTION 8 UPDATE: Stolen car suspect in Alexander City arrested after being on the run
ACTION 8 UPDATE: Alexander City police say a stolen car suspect who had been on the run for more than a day has been arrested.
Police say at about 1PM today, Benjamin Thomas was taken into custody near the 8000 block of Elkahatchee Road. He was taken to Russell Medical Center to be medically evaluated before being taken to the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office.

A suspect wanted for stealing a car in Tallapoosa County remains at-large.
Alexander City police say around 8:00 a.m. Monday, officers and Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies were involved in a vehicle pursuit with a blue Chevrolet Silverado.
Officials say the vehicle they were pursuing was reported stolen out of New Site.
Investigators then say the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
ALEA was brought in to assist with using their helicopter to search the area.
Several hours later, the suspect, identified as Benjamin Thomas, of Alexander City, was spotted on Coven Abbett Highway.
When officers attempted to make contact, Thomas jumped off the bridge and fled through the water to a separate wood line where officers were not able to reach by land.
Officers later received another call of the suspect running nude near the intersection of Hwy 63 and 128, but after officers searched the area, they weren’t able to locate him.
Alexander City police say they believe Thomas is still in the area.
Residents are strongly urged to lock their doors and remove the keys from their vehicles.
