Tropical Winds & Rain Coming Our Way

We’re going to see a break in the rain and our weather will be fairly quiet overnight. Helene makes landfall around the Big Bend of Florida Thursday afternoon/evening. The worst of the weather conditions will be east of the track  over GA and Carolinas. We’re on the better side of the track but still facing some impacts. The most significant issue for us will be the heavy rainfall across east Alabama!

Tonight: mostly cloudy with showers possible along and east of a frontal boundary stationary across our area.  Temps will fall into the upper 60s to lower 70s for overnight lows.

Thursday: the outer circulation around Helene will send bands of rain into the area throughout the day. The heavier tropical downpours will begin working into east Alabama during the afternoon hours and continue through the night into early Friday. Rainfall potential will be heaviest east of I-65 with 4 to 6 inches possible. West Alabama is looking at less than 2 inches.   The winds will be stronger in our eastern most counties with gust 30-40mph. Central and West Alabama wind gust between 25-30 mph.

Our weather will be improving going into the upcoming weekend.  The rain moves out by early Friday morning but the winds still remain gusty(20-25mph)throughout the day.  Partly sunny skies return and we head into Friday evening uneventful weatherwise. We don’t see any weather issues for Friday night football games or college games Saturday.  The rest of the weekend is looking fairly nice.  We’re expecting mostly sunny skies with a few showers possible. Temps will manage the mid 80s for highs both days.
