Selma attorneys warns people to beware of Black Farmer scams

From the West Alabama Newsroom–

Two Selma attorneys are warning people to beware of scammers — offering an opportunity to join a Black Farmers discrimination case.

Waka Farmerscam0926 VoAttorneys at the Chestnut, Sanders and Sanders Law Firm in Selma — brought the initial Black Farmers case.

Attorneys Hank Sanders and Faya Rose Toure have worked on every subsequent discrimination case and initiative involving the USDA.

“I want to encourage folks don’t give anyone your money trying to get into these farmer’s cases,” said Sanders.

They say groups gathering personal information and cash from people in Camden and Selma — is a cause for concern.

“I’ve never known a lawyer of any race filing a class action that asks the class members for money in advance. Never. It doesn’t happen,” said Toure.

They say the deadline to apply to be a part of the final USDA settlement initiative — passed in January.
