TICKLED PINK: Survivor Makeover winner Matilda Tucker gets pampered
A tradition at Action 8’s Tickled Pink each year is to name a breast cancer survivor to be treated to a complete makeover!
This year’s Tickled Pink Survivor Makeover winner is Matilda Tucker. Her niece — who nominated her — said she’s still faced with challenges from her breast cancer treatments and their side effects, but continues to put others’ needs before her own.
On July 18, 2022, Tucker found out after a routine mammogram that she had triple negative breast cancer. Her battle with cancer included a lumpectomy, chemotherapy and then 20 rounds of radiation.
“My family they were there from the moment I was diagnosed until the moment I rang the bell — the victory bell — as well as my church family. If it wasn’t for them, I mean, I don’t think I would’ve had the mindset to carry on,” Tucker said.
After six months of treatment, Tucker rang the bell signifying the end of this life-altering chapter.
To celebrate her victory over cancer, Tucker’s Tickled Pink Survivor Makeover pampering process started at Vivian O’Nay where she chose a fabulous outfit. The fun continued at Doug’s 2 Salon where their expert stylists figured out the perfect hairstyle.
Next? Picking out a palette of colors that add a special glow, with Mary Kay makeup artist Tracy McCree. At Belk, Tucker found some fall boots and a splurge-worthy purse. The hunt for accessories continued at Bryan Jewelry where she chose a lovely ruby and diamond ring.
Dr. Porcia Love at River Region Dermatology talked to Tucker about the best skincare regimen and treatments, and then Avondale and Associates treated her to a fabulous pair of designer sunglasses. Tucker’s final stop was Gloria Nails to pick out the perfect shade of polish.
“I would like to say to WAKA, thank you, thank you, from the very bottom of my heart as well as the sponsors that have sponsored and gifted me with today’s day of pampering. I’m grateful for you all as well.”
Matilda Tucker will show off her new look at the “Tickled Pink Out Party” at Riverwalk Stadium Saturday, September 28. The event runs from 9AM-3PM and is a fundraiser for the Cancer Wellness Foundation.
She has some final words for anyone still struggling with cancer.
“For those women that are going through breast cancer at this very moment, I would like for them to know that they are not in it alone. Don’t give up! Keep fighting because victory will eventually come.”
All of us at Action 8 thank our caring sponsors for making this Survivor Makeover happen.
