Man charged with drug trafficking in Troy

A man faces charges of drug trafficking in Troy after police say they arrested him during a traffic stop.

Police say 28-year-old Diavante Jordan Welch of Melbourne, Florida, is charged with trafficking marijuana and hydrocodone.

Police say they stopped a car on U.S. Highway 231 during routine traffic enforcement. That’s when they say they discovered a large amount of marijuana inside the car.

Police say further investigation revealed that Welch also had a gun and a significant amount of hydrocodone pills. Additionally, police say Welch was found with a large sum of U.S. currency in denominations commonly linked to narcotics sales.

Welch faces a bond of $200,000. He is being held in the Pike County Jail.
