ASU changes tailgate policy following shots fired incident
In light of the recent shots fired incident on the campus during homecoming weekend, Alabama State University has changed its tailgate policy.
University officials say the ASU Tailgate area is enclosed with one entry and exit gate under the breezeway connecting Abernathy and the Abernathy Annex. Tailgate attendees must present a game ticket, tailgate ticket or student ID to enter.
Officials say anyone with a firearm will immediately have it confiscated and that person will be ejected and arrested.
Tailgate setup opens on Friday at 3:00 p.m. for RV season holders and at 5:00 p.m. for non-RV season holders. The tailgate area will close at noon on Sunday for all RV attendees.
Tent load-in on gameday will run from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with cars only entering through the Forest Avenue gate. Tents must be out of the tailgate area by 10:00 p.m.
ASU says security will monitor the RV tailgating lots to ensure that there is no noise between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
ASU Police say two people were arrested following last weekend’s incident. Thankfully, no one was injured.
