ACTION 8 UPDATE: Man found not guilty of fatal shooting in Autauga County

ACTION 8 UPDATE: A man who was charged in a fatal shooting in Autauga County in 2022 has been found not guilty, according to his attorney.

Attorney Richard White represented defendant Jermichael Nixon of Autaugaville. The trial was held this week in Autauga County.

After a three-day trial, White says the jury found Nixon not guilty on all three counts against him — murder, second-degree assault and shooting into an occupied building.

As Action 8 News has reported, The shooting happened on the night of Saturday, March 12, 2022. Police say an SUV approached the intersection of North Pickett Street and Tyus Street in Autaugaville. Shots were fired from the SUV at a crowd of people having a social gathering. Investigators say several of the pedestrians returned fire.

One of the people who was hit, 22-year-old Cameron Motley of Autaugaville, was flown to a Montgomery hospital and then transferred to a Birmingham hospital where he died. Three others were injured.

A second person was charged in the case. 28-year-old Cedric Maurice Long of Elmore County, was charged with murder, assault in the second degree and firing a gun into an occupied dwelling. Court records show that he is awaiting trial.
