First Decent Chance For Some Rain Activity This Week
Finally we’re seeing the best chance for some rain activity in quite some time. We have two weather features that could have some impact on our weather. One is a tropical wave and the other is a frontal boundary. The tropical wave will move out of the northeastern gulf and work through eastern Alabama and western Georgia Wednesday. Showers and t-storms are likely to accompany this system. This could be some beneficial rains for our eastern counties. It doesn’t look like much rain activity will occur west of the I-65 corridor. The frontal boundary will move through the area Wednesday night into Thursday. This system could help trigger additional showers or t-storms as it pushes southward towards the coast. Farther southward over the gulf will be Rafael later this week. It’s forecast to become become a hurricane Tuesday night and enter the gulf early Thursday. Model data has it moving more northwestward. The official NHC track keeps it well south of our gulf coast area for now. Another frontal system will set up west of the state over the weekend. Confidence is low on the fronts progress. It could get held up and weaken west of the state. It’s something we’re watching and will update as the week progresses.
