Opelika woman killed in Butler County crash

23butlercountyA single-vehicle crash in Butler County has claimed the life of an Opelika woman.

The crash happened around 12:24 p.m. Sunday on I-65 near the 133 mile marker, approximately four miles north of Greenville.

Troopers say 24-year-old Jacqueline Moran Santos was fatally injured when the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, she was a passenger in, left the roadway and struck a cable barrier before overturning.

Moran Santos, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was ejected and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the Silverado, 28-year-old Gonzalo Ayala Alvarado, also of Opelika, was also injured and was transported to the Regional Medical Center of Central Alabama in Greenville for treatment.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division are investigating the cause of the accident.
