Elderly woman dies in Montgomery house fire
A house fire in Montgomery has claimed the life of an elderly woman.
Montgomery Fire/Rescue Assistant Fire Chief Stanley Cooper says the fire happened early Sunday morning around 3:30 a.m. in the 3000 block of Alta Road. That location is near Lower Wetumpka Road in the Sheridan Heights neighborhood.
Once they arrived, firefighters found a single story home with smoke and flames showing from the roof area.
After the fire was extinguished, crews found the unidentified woman inside the room. The woman was taken to Jackson Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
No one else was inside the home and there were no other injuries to civilians or firefighters.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
