Elderly man dies in Montgomery house fire

An overnight house fire in Montgomery has claimed the life of an elderly man.

Montgomery Fire/Rescue Assistant Fire Chief Stanley Cooper says the fire happened around 3:40 a.m. in the 600 block of Early Street.

Once firefighters arrived, they found a single story home with smoke and flames showing. Hand lines were laid into the home to extinguish the fire.

During the primary search, firefighters located the man inside the home.

The unidentified man was taken to Jackson Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No one else was injured in the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

This is the second fatal house fire over the weekend.

The first happened just 24 hours prior in the 3300 block of Alta Road.

That fire claimed the life of an elderly woman.

The cause fire is also under investigation.
