Rain, thunder Friday night; Severe storms possible Saturday night
Gloomy post-Christmas weather continued Friday, and extends through Saturday too. While showers and storms were non-severe Friday, strong to severe storms appear possible Saturday, mainly Saturday night. Meanwhile, showers and storms continue Friday evening, though mostly taper off through early Saturday morning. Saturday looks mostly cloudy with highs near 70°. Showers and storms become scattered about during the day.
The “main event” Saturday looks like a line of strong storms arriving in west Alabama late. These storms may produce damaging wind gusts and tornadoes. They continue east across our area through the night into early Sunday morning. Storms may exit into Georgia by about 6am. The rest of Sunday looks drier with some afternoon sunshine.
Next week looks mainly dry. Temperatures remain warmer through New Year’s Eve, with highs near 70° Monday and Tuesday. Cold winter air returns Wednesday night through the end of the week. Temperatures only warm into the 50s Thursday and Friday afternoon despite sunshine. Lows temperatures fall to near freezing each night.
