Selma police detectives investigate city’s first murder of 2025

Selma Police are investigating the city’s first murder of 2025 — less than a week into the new year.

Chief Kenta Fulford says officers responded to a shots fired call in the area of Keller Alley at around 8:30 Saturday night.

1900 MinterOfficers received a 2nd call while in route — about a gunshot victim on the 1900 block of Minter Avenue — which is in the vicinity of Keller Alley.

When officers arrived at the scene they found the 34 year old victim — lying out on the ground.

“Our officers made contact with a black male subject David Lewis who was laying on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to the E-R where he later succumbed to his injuries,” said Fulford.

“We’re still in the preliminary stages of the investigation. And detectives are talking to the witnesses that were in the area at that time.”
