ACTION 8 UPDATE: Third person charged in deadly midtown Montgomery shooting

ACTION 8 UPDATE:

A third person has been charged in connection to a deadly shooting in midtown Montgomery.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency says 24-year-old Ladarius Knight, of Montgomery, has been charged with Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess a Firearm.

Montgomery police also arrested two others related to the incident.

According to court records, 18-year-old Trawick Smith, Jr. and 18-year-old Rodriques Humphrey, both of Montgomery, have been charged with capital murder in the shooting death of 24-year-old Rodriquez Harris, Jr.

Additionally, Humphrey is also facing an attempted murder charge. Court records say Humphrey fired at a Montgomery police officer while trying to flee the scene.

The incident happened Tuesday around 12:30 p.m. when officers and fire medics were called to the 2600 block of Zelda Road after receiving a report of a shooting.

Our news crew found crime scene tape at the Chevron gas station next to Krystal and across from McDonald’s.

Once they arrived, they found Harris, Jr. dead on the scene.

Smith and Humphrey are both in the Montgomery County Detention Facility on no bond. Knight is also in custody on a $15,000 bond.

ALEA says four firearms were recovered, two were equipped with machine gun conversion devices.

Additional federal charges are forthcoming by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), who also responded to the scene to assist.

This is Montgomery’s first homicide of 2025.
