Person killed in Interstate 85 crash in Opelika

Opelika police say a person has been killed in a one-car crash on Interstate 85.

The wreck happened at about 3:40AM today near Exit 64, which is the exit to U.S. Highway 29.

Police found a vehicle in a ditch with two people inside. They say the 19-year-old passenger died at the scene. The driver was taken to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, Georgia, for treatment.

No other information about the wreck victims has been released.

Investigators say that despite the overnight threat for snow and ice, the weather was not a contributing factor in this crash.
