Ex-Autaugaville Fire Chief Pleads Guilty on Ethics Violation

The former chief of the Autaugaville Volunteer Fire Department has pleaded guilty to using his office for personal gain.

Danny Chavers, who also served as the head of the town’s Water Board, appeared in court Wednesday. He was accused of using the fire department’s money to buy goods from Victoria’s Secret, sporting goods stores and to take trips to casinos.

The Montgomery Advertiser reports (http://on.mgmadv.com/1gq3Oj6) that 50-year-old Chavers will remain free on $25,000 bond and is scheduled to be sentenced on May 14.

Two of Chavers’ co-defendants have pleaded not guilty to using their positions for personal gain, theft of property and theft by deception. Dates for their trials have not been set.
