The Alabama Department of Transportation will begin temporary lane closures for the Pike Road roundabouts project, which is just off Interstate 85 at Exit 16, which is the Pike Road/Waugh exit.
ALDOT says the closures will start today at 3PM for milling operations.
The lane closures will end by 6:30AM Monday, Feb. 3, and resume at 6:00PM Monday. The Monday night lane closure will end by 6:30AM Tuesday, Feb. 4.
No other lane closures are anticipated the remainder of the week.
While traveling through the construction zone, drivers should slow down, pay attention, and watch for construction equipment and vehicles entering and exiting the roadway.
As Action 8 News has reported, the project was first announced in 2020.
The project started last fall to install two roundabouts. These roundabouts are being built at the intersections of SR-126 at U.S. Highway 80 and Marler Road at U.S. Highway 80.
A third roundabout is planned on the opposite side of Exit 16, which would be a separate phase from the current work.
This project is a joint effort between ALDOT and the Town of Pike Road.
CB&A Construction, LLC of Birmingham was awarded the $4.9 million contract for the project as the lowest bidder meeting all requirements. The project is expected to be completed in spring 2026.
