Brantley boys basketball earns state bid

Brantley boys basketball beat J.F. Shields 57-49 to advance to the 1A AHSAA State Championships after a lot of hard work.

“The long hours, the hours people don’t see,” guard Jayden Parks said. “It just feels great to get here with my brothers.”

Parks was named 1A South Region MVP, while Bulldogs teammates Julius Sylvester and Jon Kilcrease made the All-Tournament Team.

“We didn’t make the playoffs in football,” Kilcrease said, “so it just gave us another month of preparation. I think that month is what put us over to the top.”

The Brantley Bulldogs are returning to the state playoffs for the first time in three years.

“It’s tough to make it, but these guys set it as a goal, just like we do every year,” Brantley boys basketball head coach Andre Parks said. “Just so proud of the guys in locker room for fighting and making it happen.”
