Highland Home girls basketball reaches first States since 2001
Highland Home girls basketball trailed by seven in the fourth quarter, but came back to defeat Ranburne 32-30 in overtime and advance to the AHSAA 2A state championships.
“Man, it’s really unbelievable, man. We haven’t done this since 2001,” guard JaNya Foster said.
Foster was named tournament MVP while teammate Aniach Rodgers joined her on the 2A Girls Central Region All-Tournament Team.
“It’s very emotional for me.” Highland Home girls basketball coach Gevonne Cooper said. “I’ve been training (Foster) and having her since seventh grade and a couple of more. And it just feels great, to bring our school history and start it over.”
