Dadeville man arrested for failing to register as sex offender

A Dadeville man has been arrested for failing to register as a sex offender in Tallapoosa County.

Tallapoosa County Sheriff Jimmy Abbett tells Action 8 News that 58-year-old Darryl Orvett Payne was taking into custody and charged with violation of the Sex Offender Registration and Community Notification Act.

Payne was convicted in 1991 in the District of Columbia with intent to commit first degree sexual assault.

In addition, State Law Enforcement Division in South Carolina has an active warrant for leaving hurriedly and failing to register in that state.

The case remains under investigation.
