Domestic shooting leaves 1 dead, 1 in custody
A domestic-related incident in Covington County leaves one person dead and another in custody.
Sheriff Blake Turman tells Action 8 News that around 8 p.m. Tuesday, his deputies responded to a home on Oscar Pugh Road after receiving a call that a person had been shot.
Upon their arrival, the suspect refused to exit the home, leading to a standoff with law enforcement.
The Covington County Incident Response Team was eventually able to take the suspect, 60-year-old William Edward Morgan, into custody without incident.
Sheriff Turman said the male victim, identified as Robert Morgan, is a family member of the suspect, but their relationship was not released. Robert Morgan was transported to Mizell Memorial Hospital in Opp with life-threatening injuries, but later died from his injuries.
William Morgan is charged with murder and is currently in the Covington County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
