Action 8 now has two Lifesaver Radar systems to bring a new layer of protection from severe weather in Alabama.

No other station can bring you these views of incoming storms.

These radars solve a generations-old problem that has been talked about for years. Action 8, our parent Company Bahakel Communications, LTD. of Charlotte, North Carolina, and The Johnny Adams Law Firm decided to make the investment to fix it in the hopes of saving lives.

That problem is the “radar gap” in West Alabama. The area is too far away from existing government radars to get adequate coverage of storms, including tornadoes. That put lives at risk.

This new Lifesaver Radar is designed to cover lower levels of the atmosphere, with 10 times the resolution of other radars, using the X-Band.

Our radar systems, which are located near the Alabama-Mississippi state line and in the Wilcox County town of Pine Hill, will be used together and with the government radars to give coverage over the entire area.

The Action 8 Weather Authority team will have more radar scans to analyze any time severe weather threatens.

Lifesaver Radar has benefits beyond West Alabama. Because storms often move from west to east, Action 8 viewers will get the first look at incoming storms. So even if you live in Montgomery, Prattville or Wetumpka, you will get an early warning of what may be coming your way.

DETAILS ABOUT LIFESAVER RADAR

  • Lifesaver Radar is exclusive to WAKA Action 8, with systems in Wilcox County and near the Alabama-Mississippi state line
  • Lifesaver Radar is an addition to government radars you already know
  • Lifesaver Radar has 10 times the resolution, so you’ll see storms more clearly
  • Lifesaver Radar scans lower levels of the atmosphere, areas that distant radars often miss
  • Lifesaver Radar has the first look at storms incoming from the west, giving everyone an earlier warning

The radars were built in Alabama and supplied by Climavision, a company that is working to close radar gaps nationwide.

You will not see these radars on any other TV station. Be looking for the two Action 8 Lifesaver Radars from now on. They are critically important tools that we are grateful to have.
