Plantersville community continues tornado cleanup efforts

From the West Alabama Newsroom–

Waka Pvilleupdate0402 Pkg1A Plantersville community continues to clean-up after the deadly EF-3 tornado that hit the area about two weeks ago.

Tons of debris have already been cleared off and hauled away. And tons more have been piled up — to haul off.

Some tornado victims have started making repairs to their homes. But assistance from FEMA won’t be available to victims — because Dallas County did not meet the threshold to qualify.

Waka Pvilleupdate0402 Pkg“Ain’t no FEMA around here. That’s for sure,” said tornado victim Marcus Mehan.

“We more or less have to do it ourselves. Which I mean we have had people come by bring food, stuff like that. we’re very appreciative of, but no FEMA.”

Thirty-four structures were damaged by the tornado — including nine that were totally destroyed.

Two people were killed — and two others were injured.
