Boyfriend charged in shooting death of his girlfriend in Waugh

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has released new details regarding a recent death investigation in Waugh.

Deputies responded to Highway 80 East on March 27 after receiving a call that a person had been shot.

Once they arrived, they found 21-year-old Gennia Grimes, with a life-threatening gunshot wound. Grimes was treated by medics and airlifted to the hospital for treatment. MCSO says Grimes died from her injuries a short time later.

Investigators arrested 20-year-old Rogers McCloud, Jr. on charges of Capital Murder.

“This case involves domestic violence where a young innocent woman was murdered at the hands of her boyfriend,” said Assistant Chief Wesley Richerson. “To protect the integrity of the case, we have not publicly discussed the details of this investigation. However, please do not confuse our silence with inaction. We have been meticulously working to gather evidence and to determine the facts surrounding Gennia’s death. Sheriff’s Office Investigators, Crime Scene Technicians, and Criminal Analyst have worked diligently over the past week to ensure the truth was exposed, and the suspect was arrested for this terrible crime.”

McCloud, Jr. is currently in the Montgomery County Detention Facility on no bond.
