Second person arrested in Autaugaville deadly shooting
A second person has been arrested and charged in a shooting that killed one and injured another.
Autauga County Sheriff Mark Harrell tells Action 8 News that 20-year-old Leroy Lewis, of Prattville, is charged in the late Monday night shooting that killed a transgender woman and injured a male victim.
Earlier this week, the Autauga County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27-year-old Kelmen King, of Autaugaville, for the same crime.
Sheriff Harrell said that during the investigation, it was believed that around 11:40 p.m., King attempted to carjack the victims when it turned deadly.
Court records identified the woman as Kaitoria Bankz. Bankz was pronounced dead on the scene. The adult male victim, who was shot in the head, was taken to the hospital for treatment and later released.
Both King and Lewis are in the Autauga County Jail facing a murder and attempted murder charges. Lewis also faces an obstruction charge.
