Legislature Approves Education Budget Without Teacher Pay Raise

The Alabama house has approved an education budget that does not include a teacher’s pay raise.
Instead, teachers would gain more money for insurance. Â Â Â
Proponents of the bill say that this may help avoid large premium increases for current and retired education employees.
Governor Robert Bentley and Democrats both say teachers deserve a pay raise after going several years without one.
The $5,900,000,000 budget was approved in a close 51 to 47 vote. Â
The proposal will now go back to the senate.
