A Camden man will spend the rest of his life in prison after pleading guilty of killing a Pike Road man nearly four years ago.

Montgomery County District Attorney Azzie Oliver says 50-year-old Patrick Wheeler has been sentenced to life for the shooting incident that happened in front of the victim’s son.

The shooting happened on July 9, 2021, just before 1:00PM in the 100 block of Lakeshore Drive in the Bridle Brook Farms subdivision.

Once they arrived, deputies found the body of a 49-year-old Ledell Flennory deceased in the driveway.

While on the scene, investigators were able to obtain a description of the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle.

Shortly after, Wheeler was identified as the suspect and ultimately surrendered to law enforcement near the area of Lamar Road in West Montgomery.

Wheeler was subsequently arrested and charged with Capital Murder.

According to investigators, Wheeler hid behind a fence waiting for Mr. Flennory. When Wheeler saw the victim, he opened fire, striking him in the head. Mr. Flennory’s son witnessed his death.

Wheeler pled guilty this month to murder and was sentenced by Judge Brooke Reid to life in prison.

“I am thankful to Judge Reid for pronouncing a strong sentence,” said District Attorney Oliver. “Any murder is despicable, but a murder that occurs in front of a child is truly heinous. I can only hope that this sentence of life in prison can begin the healing process for Ledell Flennory’s family. I remain committed and steadfast in my pledge to prosecute violent offenders to the fullest extent of the law.”
