MMI men’s tennis team ranks in Top 25 in national polling
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
The Marion Military Institute tennis team is ranked among the top junior college tennis teams in the country.
After suffering through a few lean years — the MMI men’s tennis team has quickly turned things around.
In fact, the Tigers could soon be on it’s way — to compete in the national tournament — for a chance to win a championship.
“We should receive an at-large bid. We’re looking to dance, we got our shoes ready, we’re polished up,” said coach Trey Bogue.
“But we still got work to do. And nationals it doesn’t get any easier, so. But it’s where we want to be each year.”
The second year coach has resurrected the program — and he’s trying to build something special.
“So, we’re holding guys accountable, we’re working hard, we’re putting in our court time and good things are happening for us,” said Bogue.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association currently ranks the team at #22 in the nation. And Bogue says working hard to continue building on this season’s success.
“It’s all about recruiting. You can’t win the Kentucky Derby with a pack mule. So, you need to have quality players in your program if you want to win national championships, if you want to compete for national championships and win conference championships. It’s all about those kids,” he said.
“A lot of people are down on college tennis cause there’s so many international players but here at MMI we’re a hundred percent American. So, if you know somebody out there looking for that scholarship, reach out. We’d love to talk to them.”
