Opelika teacher arrested on child sex charges

Opelika police say they have arrested a teacher on charges of having a sexual relationship with a student.

Police say 47-year-old Jill Brisendine Campbell has been arrested on charges of rape in the second degree and sodomy in the second degree.

Police say earlier this month, they began investigating allegations of an inappropriate sexual relationship that happened approximately eight years ago. They say the victim reported that the acts occurred when the child was in 7th and 8th grade and attending Opelika Middle School.

Police say an investigation revealed evidence that corroborated the victim’s statement.

Police say Opelika City Schools is fully cooperating with the investigation and has placed Campbell on administrative leave.
