Troy’s Blake Cavill named Sun Belt Player of the Week

Following a monster weekend at the plate, Troy first baseman Blake Cavill was named the Sun Belt Player of the Week for Week 11.
Cavill is Troy’s fourth Sun Belt Player of the Week winner this season, joining Shane Lewis (Week 1), Sean Darnell (Week 2) and Gavin Schrader (Week 5).
The senior from Sydney, Australia posted a .429 batting average, .579 on-base percentage and 1.000 slugging percentage across four games last week. Cavill went 5-for-14 at the plate with a triple, a pair of home runs and five RBIs. Cavill also drew five walks, including two intentional walks, bringing his season total to 49 which ranks fourth nationally.
Cavill went 3-for-6 in Troy’s 12-10 midweek win at Alabama State, driving in two runs on his first career triple. In Friday’s 3-2 win over Texas State, the powerful left-handed hitter crushed a go-ahead two-run home run in the seventh inning before homering again in a 2-for-3 day in Saturday’s 9-4 win over the Bobcats.
The Western Kentucky transfer has been one of Troy’s hottest hitters in the month of April, hitting six of his eight home runs on the season this month. Cavill currently leads the Sun Belt and ranks 13th nationally in on-base percentage (.530) while ranking fourth in the Sun Belt in OPS (1.126) and fifth in RBIs (43).
Cavill’s productive week extended his on-base streak to 49 games dating back to last season. He reached base safely in his final seven games at WKU last season and all 42 games played as a Troy Trojan this season.
Cavill’s Sun Belt Player of the Week honor is the second conference player of the week award of his career. Last season at Western Kentucky, Cavill was named Conference USA Hitter of the Week on February 26.
