Unkept conditions at Byrd School raising concerns in Selma
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
A vacant school building in Selma is raising concerns among residents in one of the city’s historic districts.
Byrd School closed down in 2019 — and it’s now a city-owned property.
It’s been damaged by a hurricane and a tornado since it closed six years ago. And now sits in a state of disrepair.
People who live near the school want the city do something with the property — before it’s too late.
“It’s very sad. I mean, if they wait much longer there won’t be anything left of it,” said Barbara Pritchard.
Action 8 News reached out to Mayor James Perkins, Jr. about the matter but he was not available for comment.
