Active Mothers Lead to Active Children
A new study in the journal Pediatrics suggests a physically active mother makes for physically active children.
U.K. researchers gave heart rate monitors to more than 500 mothers and their 4-year-olds and tracked their activity for a week.Â
They found for every minute of moderate-to-vigorous activity a mother engaged in, her child was more likely to engage in 10 percent more of the same level of activity.
The study also found only 53 percent of mothers engaged in 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity a week.Â
