State Budget Cuts Could Force Some ABC Stores to Close

The Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board says that the cuts in the new General Fund budget may force some state-run liquor stores to close.

ABC Administrator Mac Gipson has announced a plan to close or consolidate at least 15 ABC stores statewide. The closings are expected to take three to six months.

According to the ABC Board, the Legislature moved more than $5.5 million from its budget to fund other items in the General Fund.

If the stores close as planned, the state will still have 160 stores statewide.

The stores slated to close in our area are:

Store 16 – Coliseum Blvd. in Montgomery

Store 54 – Washington St. in Marion

Store 63 – Vaughn Road in Pike Road

Store 81 – Mildred St. in Montgomery

Store 88 – 3458 Atlanta Highway (Forest Hills) in Montgomery

Store 91 – S. Forest Ave. in Luverne

Store 112 – Commerce St. in Hayneville

Store 117 – S. Main St. in Linden
