Montgomery City Council member Andrew Szymanski says he reached out to the Alabama River Alliance because he wanted  its help on getting people to better engage with the river.

The Alabama Rivers Alliance will be finding out what people want the city to do to improve access to the Alabama River, which runs right next to downtown. It wants to better highlight this natural resource asset.
Szymanski says that he hopes to put the river to better use.
“Throughout Alabama, people are looking for outdoor recreation opportunities. They want to get outside. They want to engage with their outdoor recreation assets. For us to not be using the river — we have to move the city beyond. We have wonderful events down there at Riverfront Park, and that’s great, but we need to see people out on the water,” Szymanski told Action 8 News.
