Selma city employee charged with theft, using position for personal gain

A Selma city employee has been charged with theft and using his position for personal gain.

According to court records, between May 24, 2022 to June 28, 2025, Selma IT Director John Louis Kinnerson, Jr. used his official position or office to “obtain direct personal financial gain for himself, family or business.”

Also according to those records, Kinnerson took over cell phones with the intent to deprive the City of Selma. The phones were valued at $17,640.

Kinnerson is charged with 1st degree theft of property and use of official position or office for personal gain.

He was taken into custody and posted bail on July 9.

The City of Selma confirms that Kinnerson is no longer an employee with them.

Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum and Selma Mayor James Perkins,  Jr. held a press conference this morning. We’ll have more as soon as it becomes available.
