CrimeStoppers to hold gun buyback event
CrimeStoppers will be holding an anonymous gun buyback event, offering cash for people who turn in guns.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, July 26, from 10AM until 2PM at Faith Full Gospel Baptist Church, 1931 Highland Avenue in Montgomery.
The City of Montgomery and the Montgomery Police Department are joining in this effort.
Community members who turn in firearms will receive cash: $50 for any rifle or shotgun, $100 for any functioning handgun and $200 for any assault or semi automatic rifle.
The Gun Buyback event is designed to offer a safe and confidential way for people to surrender firearms they no longer need or wish to keep. In previous events, participants have included widows who inherited firearms, individuals who received guns from family members but lack proper training, and parents seeking to ensure firearms do not fall into the hands of children.
By participating, CrimeStoppers says you are contributing to the safety of neighborhoods by reducing the number of unused firearms in circulation, thereby decreasing the risk of these weapons being acquired through theft or burglary.
CrimeStoppers says if you are part of an organization that provides services such as summer programs, mentoring or counseling and you are interested in setting up a table at a Gun Buyback event, please contact CrimeStoppers at (334) 215-7867 or email: CrimeStoppers@215stop.com.
To those planning to attend, please remember to transport your firearms unloaded and in the trunk of your vehicle. All guns will be accepted, no questions asked.
Any large number of weapons consisting of 10 or more will not be purchased the day of the Gun Buyback due to logistics. Guns will be accepted, but payment will be handled at a later date.
