Five finalists chosen for new flag for City of Montgomery

The City of Montgomery is narrowing its list of finalists for a new city flag.

A meeting was held last night to reveal five finalists.

The city launched a citywide contest to redesign its municipal flag that was created in 1952.

The contest was open to all Montgomery residents, ages 13 and older.
The goal is to create a flag that embodies unity, peace and the shared values of Montgomery’s diverse population while respecting its rich history.
“We had 27 that submitted flags,” Montgomery City Council member Oronde Mitchell told Action 8 News. “We narrowed that 27 down to about five. They had the opportunity to come in and talk about their design of the flag and their concepts in-depth. We wanted to see what every mark means, every symbol means, every color means, so we make sure that we were able to explain it to the City Council because it does have to come out of committee once it leaves here.”
The committee will meet again to discuss the flag designs in about a month.
