The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has cut the ribbon for five new cottages at Wind Creek State Park in Alexander City.

Alabama voters approved an $85 million bond in 2022, with some of that money going to build the cottages.

The cottages on Lake Martin at Wind Creek State Park are designed for families to use year round.

The cottages are priced at around $400 a night.

“We’re kind of celebrating two things today. We are opening these new five cottages — there’s three bedrooms and three bed cottages that are outstanding and then we’ve also expanded our campground. We’ve added 72 new campsites with sewer and water with large spaces in the campground to better serve the citizens of Alabama and the visitors here,” Alabama Commissioner of Conservation and Natural Resources Chris Blankenship told Action 8 News.

To reserve these cottages and the campgrounds anywhere statewide, you can go to alapark.com.

The department has about $228 million in state park projects that either completed or on underway or in the works over the next year.

The Alabama State Parks is a division of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and maintains 21 state parks encompassing more than 50,000 acres of land and water in Alabama.
