Late Rapper Doe B Tops iTunes Music Charts

Doe B’s newest album, which was just released today, appears to be getting a lot of support.

Doe B’s newest mixtape, Definition of a Trapper 3 was released early Tuesday and is sitting at number one on the iTunes hip-hop charts. DJ Frank White, who was close friends with the rapper and also managed his career says he believes Montgomery is playing a part in the album’s success.

“I believe Montgomery, Alabama has a lot to do with it being number one,” he says. “I think a lot of Montgomery, Alabama went on iTunes and supported because he did a lot for Montgomery.”

“I’m just happy,” says Doe B’s mother Shirley Thomas. “I’m just overjoyed. I can’t explain it.” 

Thomas tells us the past couple of months without her son have been stressful. She says she’s happy with Doe B’s success but says she isn’t surprised.

“It’s simply because of him, who he was and how he was about his music,” she says. “And I know he would be absolutely proud. He would probably be up there tonight in Atlanta with everybody dancing.”

Atlanta rapper T.I. Signed Doe B to his label years ago. Since that time, Doe B has been putting out music, working his way to the top. But none of his music has been as successful as Definition of a Trapper 3.

Vy Moon manages Bama State Radio and says Doe B’s death, although tragic, has made his music more popular.

“I think it’s a big deal for Montgomery,” says Moon. “I mean, I hate that he passed but right now the spotlight is on this city and there’s a lot of talent coming out of this city. I think regardless of him passing, he still would have had an impact but of course, when you do pass, there is a factor in there. People are going to want something to remember you by.”

And with the album’s success, it seems as if many people do want something to remember the rapper by. But White says the success is bittersweet.

“It’s tough dealing with it and it’s kind of a double edged sword with the project being successful because I wish he was here to see it be that way.”

White says this isn’t the last of Doe B’s music, saying the rapper has more music to be released at a later date.

Two others were killed with rapper Doe B at the former Centennial Hill Bar and Grill.

After the shootings, Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange ordered the business to close
