What The Tech App of the Day: Crash Companion

What The Tech Crash App

BY JAMEY TUCKER, Consumer Technology Reporter

If you’ve ever been in even a minor car accident, you know how important a police report can
be. But if you can’t get one right away, the new Crash Companion app can guide you through
collecting all the key details.

The app walks you step by step: exchanging info with the other driver, snapping photos,
recording witness statements, and writing a quick narrative. Witnesses can even scan a QR
code to provide their statements directly on their phones.

You can save names, phone numbers, and email addresses, take pictures of the vehicles and
scene, add your own account of what happened, and, if you allow it, log your exact location.

Crash Companion says your data stays on your device unless you choose to share it. The app
makes money from ads by auto-accident law firms but doesn’t send them your info without
permission.

And if the damage is minor, you may not want your insurance company involved.

Crash Companion is free for iPhone and Android—a handy tool for your phone, your teen driver’s, or
an elderly parent’s.
